The Rough Riders were first known as “Roosevelt’s Rough Riders.” They were mostly made of cowboys, gamblers, Native Americans, college athletes and military veterans. They were very able-bodied and capable on a horse and in shooting. Rough Riders were a tough, cowboy military division ready for anything and willing to take on anything they were assigned!
